The Northern brand ukuleles were designed by educator J. Chalmers Doane in the mid-1970s for teaching music in the Canadian school system. It has a very unique shape that plays great and projects very well This one is strung with a low G set of Fremont Blackline strings. (The originals also came with low G's.) The body is laminate mahogany, the neck is solid mahogany, the bridge is rosewood, and the fretboard has a rosewood veneer. The instrument is in excellent condition; the tuners work well and the sound is loud and resonant. Included are copies of the original instructions and other background material.
